Ten months elapsed before the Freeway Phantom claimed his final victim. She was Diane Denise Williams, a 17-year-old Ballou High School senior.

On 5 September 1972, Williams cooked dinner for her family before visiting her boyfriend. She was last seen boarding a bus to return home at about 11:20 pm near her boyfriend’s house. 

A few hours later, a truck driver discovered her body near a ramp from I-295. The killer removed Williams’ shoes but left them at the crime scene. Once again, the authorities found green fibres on the body.

The police found no signs of sexual assault, although they did find traces of semen on her clothing. Police assumed the semen belonged to the boyfriend, although he denied having sex with Williams on the night she died.
